Amy Brownlee

Amy Brownlee, MLS, was named the 2017 Kansas School Librarian of the Year for developing an outstanding library media program and making noteworthy contributions to the profession. She won a Fulbright-Hays Fellowship and spent a month in Africa with the Ethiopia Reads organization, received the Beta Phi Mu Achievement Award from Emporia State University for outstanding work in graduate studies, and served on the William Allen White Children’s Book Award Selection Committee. 

Amy was selected for a National Endowment for the Humanities program on Teaching with Comics at San Diego State University's Center for Comic Studies. Her recent Transatlantic Teacher Study Trip took her to Germany followed by a week in Washington, D.C., at the White House History Teacher Institute. She is currently part of a Fulbright Teachers for Global Classrooms exchange program involving a two-week International Field Experience in Taiwan.


She has been selected as a writer for the American Association of School Librarians' (AASL) Knowledge Quest blog and serves on the executive council of the Kansas Association of School Librarians. 

In her 25+ years as an educator, Amy has written numerous grants and secured over $99,000 in funding for her libraries for technology, books, ebooks, special programs, professional development, and STEAM materials. Amy is a reading teacher and PreK-12 librarian for Sterling USD 376, a small district in rural Kansas, and has given over 50 presentations at state, regional, and national conferences.
